With the right charging habits, you can make your electric vehicle (EV) charging more efficient and help your battery last significantly longer. Watch the videos below for simple tips that show you how.
Electric vehicles are remarkably low-maintenance — they don’t need oil changes, spark plugs, or other upkeep typical of combustion engines. You also won’t have to worry about cold starts in winter. Still, a few smart habits can make EV ownership even easier and help keep your battery in great condition. Škoda Auto’s two short videos explain the essentials.
The battery is the heart of every electric vehicle. It performs best when it’s used regularly and not exposed to extreme charge levels. In everyday use, that means avoiding long periods at very low or full charge. The ideal range is between 20% and 80%.
Škoda’s Battery Care function helps you maintain this balance by monitoring and managing charge levels. You can turn it on or off, or override it temporarily whenever you need.
Over time, slower AC charging is gentler on your battery. However, during longer trips, it’s perfectly fine to use fast DC chargers — they’re convenient and, when used sensibly, won’t harm the battery.
Fast charging works best when your battery is at a low charge (around 10%), but it slows down noticeably after 80%. For long journeys, it’s often quicker and more efficient to make several shorter charging stops instead of one long one.
Charging is fastest and most efficient when your battery is at the right temperature. Your vehicle’s built-in navigation can automatically plan charging stops and preheat the battery on the way. You can also activate preheating manually from the infotainment system.
